A City of Canals, Cycles, and World-Class Culture
Amsterdam is one of Europe's most enchanting cities — a compact, cycle-friendly metropolis where 17th-century canal houses line some 165 waterways, world-class museums are packed into every corner, and a spirit of open-minded liberalism pervades every neighborhood. With the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Anne Frank House within walking distance of each other, Amsterdam punches far above its weight culturally, while its legendary café culture, brown bars, and the famous Keukenhof tulip gardens provide the backdrop for a truly memorable visit.
Best time to visit: April and May are peak tulip season and arguably the most beautiful time in Amsterdam. June through August is warmest but very crowded and expensive. September and October offer pleasant weather with fewer tourists. Christmas markets in December are charming.
